Before students may interact with the therapy dog in any setting, they must view the STUDENTS THERAPY DOG SLIDESHOW and sign the STUDENT R.O.A.R. PROMISE. The principal typically presents the slideshow, and homeroom teachers facilitate the signing of the promise, either individually or as a class.
Our Therapy Dog Team has developed a Slideshow that can also be presented by a Student Therapy Dog Action Team, providing an authentic student leadership opportunity.
After completing the training and signing the R.O.A.R. Promise, each student receives an official therapy dog trading card recognizing them as a Therapy Dog Friend.
In order for the handler to bring the therapy dog into the classroom, staff must view the STAFF SLIDESHOW and sign the STAFF AGREEMENT. Recipients receive a "Dog-Friendly Classroom" sticker for their door window.
In order for a staff member to host the therapy dog in their classroom on their own for short periods of time they must completed DOG HOST CERTIFICATION TRAINING. which is completed with Brian as part discussion and part observation. Recipients receive a "Dog Host" sticker for their door window.
