Which instruments do we need the most?
Kids can be pretty amazing on their instruments! Check these kids out:
1. Girl playing "Flight of the BumbleBee" on clarinet- 13 years old!
2. Trombone Shorty playing Jazz at Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis- 13 years old!
A Balanced Band looks like this- we need a strong foundation for a strong band! Consider playing an instrument listed in the lower tiers of the pyramid.
About the program:
4th grade instrumental students receive one 30-minute group lesson per week. In addition, 4th grade band rehearsals occur every other week for the entire school year. Band rehearsals are in addition to the regular small-group lesson on a different cycle day. After the students gain the initial muscle control and foundational skills, 4th grade students are expected to practice 10-20 minutes per day in order to maintain their skills and progress.
Please note that 4th grade band students will perform in the 4th grade Spring Concert only.
4th grade band students are enrolled in "like-instrument" groupings. For example, there are groups of clarinets, groups of trumpets, etc. When schedules do not allow "like-instrument" groupings, instruments are combined to form a lesson group.
Small group lessons are once every 5 cycle days on a specific cycle "day" (Day A, Day B, etc). In addition to the lesson, 4th grade band rehearsals are typically every other Day E during Spartan Block period. This schedule will be clarified once the master schedule for the building is finalized at the end of the summer.
