At Home Physical Activity Journal
We already know that exercise is important for building muscle, improving cardiovascular health, improving mood, and maintaining a healthy weight. Did you also know that daily exercise is important for a healthy functioning immune system? According to MedlinePlus.gov, “physical activity may help flush bacteria out of the lungs and airways. This may reduce your chance of getting a cold, flu, or other illness”. Make it your goal to be physically active for 30-60 minutes every day. This may take some creative thinking if you can’t participate in the physical activities you typically enjoy. Complete one journal entry for every two days of school missed. You may also consider using stairs for cardio, household objects as weights, or You-Tube for workout videos.
Directions: Complete one journal entry for every two days of school missed. Type your entry in the journal Google spreadsheet provided. Please include the following information for each journal entry…
• Date
• Activity/Activities Completed
• Indicate which components of fitness did you work on? (List them)
-Cardiovascular Endurance: The ability of the body to supply oxygen during continued physical activity (Ex. running, walking, jumping rope, swimming)
-Muscular Endurance: The ability of a muscle to contract for a period of time (Ex. How many push-ups in a row, how many seconds to hold a flexed arm hang, crunches). **Think, “How Long Can I Keep Going”**
-Muscular Strength: The maximal amount of force a muscle can produce with a single action **Think “How Heavy”, “How High” or “How Far” for only 1 time**
-Flexibility: The ability of your joints to move (Ex. Stretching exercises)
