Welcome to 8th Grade Language Arts! I’m excited about the opportunity to get to know you, and I’m looking forward to a great year of reading, writing, discussing, and learning. In order to make sure we get off to a successful start, I’ve provided you with some important information about how we will work together this year:
Make sure to have the following items with you for each class period:
A charged laptop
An independent reading book of your choice
Any assigned class texts
To make our time together go as smoothly as possible, please make sure to practice the following EXPECTED STUDENT BEHAVIORS when in class:
Set up a quiet, distraction-free area with good lighting, and a background that you would not mind others seeing to participate in Zoom classes
Bring all necessary materials to class (including homework, books, pencils, etc.).
Check Google Classroom each day prior to class to see if you’ll need any additional materials that period, such as a class novel, homework assignment, etc.
Be logged in, muted, and ready to begin at the start of each class period.
Unmute your mic before speaking. When not speaking, please have yourself on mute.
Remain seated during synchronous (live) online instruction, just as you would in the physical classroom.
Actively listen to the teacher/your classmates/special guests when they are speaking
Do not use the Chat function in Google Meet unless asking the teacher a question or directed to by the teacher. Remember that Chat is public; everyone can see what you write!
Contribute to both synchronous (live) and asynchronous (on your own time) classroom activities by completing assignments, asking questions, and being involved in discussions.
Communicate issues with connectivity, online access, or hardware immediately through the tech help system.
To the teacher/your classmates/special guests.
To yourself.
To school property (technology, books, etc.).
