Classroom Procedures
1. Be prepared! The supplies you will need everyday for math class are the following:
1 marble composition notebook
1- Sturdy 2 pocket folder
Lined paper and graph paper
1 four function or scientific calculator (TI-30XIIS preferred)
1 box of pencils or mechanical pencils
1 12-inch metric ruler
1 box of colored pencils
Once you have shown me that you have all the above supplies, you may leave the calculator at home, since I have a class set for in-class use.
2. Upon entering the room:
Check the board for homework assignments and any important due dates, such as formatives, summatives, projects, etc. Don’t forget to look for the “Quote of the Week” – hopefully it will inspire you to have a positive and fabulous week!
Write down homework assignments in your assignment pad before you start working for the day. Remember to plan out your tasks carefully. We will be discussing study skills to help you properly prepare for both summative and formative assessments that will be given throughout the year.
Take out your homework from the previous day and a colored pencil and turn to the assigned page or worksheet and be ready to review.
If the previous night’s homework was to get papers signed and corrected, place these papers in your math period's folder at the beginning of the class.
Begin the “Do Now” assignment posted on the right hand side of the white board.
3. Taking notes in Math class is essential! It is extremely important to copy all the examples and steps given at the board during the class period. These notes will assist you in completing daily assignments. All class notes will be neatly written using a pencil in your marble notebook. It is very important that you keep this notebook in good condition and in a safe place, since this will be your link to 7th grade. During the first few days of school, we will review how to set-up your marble notebook and take notes.
All written assignments on lined paper or worksheets will have a proper heading:
Name Date
Subject/period Teacher name
Assignment Title
4. Homework will be assigned daily for the purpose of reinforcing concepts presented and practicing the skills learned. It is important for students to review their notes and classwork for examples before beginning their homework. PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT ANY HOMEWORK ON GOOGLE CLASSROOM!
When completing a homework assignment, these procedures must be followed:
Done in pencil and show all work in notebook, unless otherwise state
Copy the original math problem.
Work through the steps of the problem using your notes from class and remember to SHOW ALL YOUR WORK!!
Put a circle or box around the answer.
Check your work.
Leave room for corrections next to each problem.
REMEMBER to always ask:” Does my answer make sense?”
Each homework assignment is worth 2 points and will be graded on a scale of 0 to 2. In order to receive credit on each homework assignment, it must be turned in on the day that it's due at the beginning of the class period and be completed in pencil.
2: Entire assignment is complete, and all work is shown.
1: Half or majority of the assignment is complete with work shown.
0: Assignment was not attempted OR completely no work shown.
Homework Disclaimer:
Homework will be posted daily on our google classroom, but things may happen during the day that would cause the assignment to change. The most accurate assignment will be written on the board in the classroom, and it is the student's responsibility to write it down in their agenda.
5. Please use the restrooms between classes. If it is a necessity, please let me know that you are going, sign out and leave the room quietly.
6. Please wait for me to dismiss the class at the end of each period.
7. ABSENT DAYS – If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get the missed notes and assignments/activities. Daily notes and worksheets will be posted to our google classroom. Upon the day of your return, check with me during the TEAM period to make sure you have copied the correct notes and assignments. Any missed assessments will be rescheduled in a reasonable timeframe.
8. Grading Policy – Your grade will be based on a total points based system consisting of Summative Assessments, Formative Assessments, and Homework assignments .
