This program allows students to prove competency and receive credit for courses they previously failed, were not offered at SHS, or had scheduling conflicts. Students may enroll in original credit, credit recovery, or accelerated courses at their own expense after consultation with their counselor and approval from the Director of Student Support Services and the subject Curriculum Supervisor.
Guidelines
Schedule a school counselor meeting before registering for any courses to discuss all available options.
Approval is required from the Director of Student Support Services and the Curriculum Supervisor.
Courses are offered for credit recovery, acceleration, scheduling conflicts, or by special permission.
Summer course enrollment ends July 1.
Requests for scheduling conflicts must be submitted with the release of student schedules.
SHS’s Student Handbook details the change of schedule procedures on page 62.
These courses are to be completed during study hall or outside the school day.
Original credit, credit recovery, and accelerated courses will appear on the SHS transcript as external courses, listed with a "P" grade and not factored into the GPA. For example, the transcript will list Algebra II (Educere 85%) with a "P" grade. Full credit is earned if taken in 9th grade or beyond; if taken before 9th grade, it will only advance options for the next course selection.
Courses must be completed on time—seven days before the end of each semester or by August 15th for summer courses.
All courses must be completed by the date indicated on the course registration email.
Courses taken for acceleration:
Cannot count toward graduation requirements.
Final exams are required and will be offered in person on two dates after course completion. They must pass the SHS final exam, and score an 80% or better for Honors/AP consideration.
If requirements are not met, and you are still interested in a level change, contact your school counselor for the next steps in the Course Waiver process.
