What is a Capstone?
The Capstone is a culminating project that provides a way for students to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they acquired during their secondary school years of education. High school students are asked to demonstrate their ability to apply key knowledge and skills by planning, completing and presenting a culminating project linked to one or more areas of personal interest.
Your faculty adviser is one of the most valuable resources you will have throughout the Capstone experience. They will serve as a mentor to help you develop ideas, guide you through project requirements, and review and approve your written work. It’s important to choose someone you feel comfortable working with and, if possible, someone who has experience or interest in your project topic. Current juniors may begin reaching out to faculty members to request a Capstone adviser for the 2025–26 school year. You can contact teachers in person, by email, or through Google Classroom. Please keep in mind that most certified staff members are eligible to serve as advisers, but they can only take on 1–5 students, assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Once a teacher agrees to be your adviser, they will submit a Google Form to notify the Capstone team. All students must secure an adviser by May 7th. If you have not selected an adviser by that date, one will be assigned to you. Groups are limited to two students, and both students must have the same adviser. Even when working in a group, each student is responsible for submitting their own original written work.
