Extended Time

For distance learning in the home setting, the student will have extended time to complete assigned work since his/her day in the home setting will not follow the same schedule as school.

Preferential Seating

For distance learning in the home setting, parents/guardians/supervising adults can provide a common and consistent area for the student to complete assigned work, preferably seated at a table or desk.

Frequent Check-Ins

Teachers are available from 9 am-12 pm and 1-3 pm on days when school is open according to the district calendar, to answer questions that the student may have.

Parents/guardians/supervising adults can also check in with students every 10-20 minutes to ensure that students are working effectively.

Clarify or Restate Directions

For distance learning in the home setting, parents/guardians/supervising adults can explain or reword directions to students.

Teachers are available from 9 am-12 pm and 1-3 pm on days when school is open according to the district calendar. Please contact the teacher for help with understanding directions.

Flexible Seating

For distance learning in the home setting parents/guardians/supervising adults may provide the child with multiple locations around the house which are conducive to learning. It may be helpful to have places to stand, sit, and lay down to work. The parent/guardian/supervising adult may also want to consider a chair cushion or pillow on the child's seat, bean bag chair, camp chair, or other form of seating that may be available in the home.

Provide Adaptations for Written Formats

For distance learning in the home setting parents/guardians/supervising adults may provide the child with alternatives to written formats such as allowing their child to explain their work orally while the parent/guardian/supervising adult scribes, providing fill in the blank formats, or using an "I write then you write" approach.

Chunk Longer Assignments into Smaller Tasks

For distance learning in the home setting, parents/guardians/supervising adults can chunk home assignments into shorter tasks by directing the student to complete one problem or one page at a time.

Reduce the Amount of Information on a Page

For distance learning in the home setting, the student can cover parts of the worksheet with a blank piece of paper in order to look at only one problem at a time.

Check in with the School Counselor

Please email the school counselor between the hours of 9 am-12 pm and 1-3 pm on days when school is open according to the district calendar, if needed.

Behavior Charts

Not applicable for distance learning in the home learning; however, a behavior chart can be created for the home setting when requested. Please contact your child's case manager if you would like to collaborate on a behavior plan for at home.

Adjust Homework as Needed

There will be no additional nightly homework assigned during the distance learning time period.

Preview and Review of New Concepts

For distance learning in the home setting, parents/guardians/supervising adults can tell and/or discuss with the child what they will be learning the next day. If additional review of a new skill/concept is needed, this can occur in the home setting. If parents/guardians/supervising adults would like additional support/guidance with this, they may contact the classroom teacher or instructional support teacher between the hours of 9 am-12 pm and 1-3 pm on days when school is open according to the district calendar.

Medical Accommodations

Parents/guardians/supervising adults will supervise and administer all necessary medical accommodations.
