Student Leaders

I participated in Breakaway my first year at Southwestern when I went to New Orleans to study how the effects of Hurricane Katrina were still present 10 years after it occurred. After this initial experience, I visited San Francisco through Breakaway to examine the worker's rights of Asian-Americans. I am now fortunate enough to be a site leader and learn more about social justice issues as well as teach other students as I learn. Breakaway has given me the opportunity to perform more effective community service, educate myself about social justice issues that I was previously unfamiliar with, and develop as a person and as a leader during my time at Southwestern.

I decided to be a Site Leader because I wanted to be able to take an active role in helping and working for my community. Since I was a kid I have been active in my community, but I wanted to do even more. I am honored to be able to gain more knowledge about social justice, as well as sharing this experience with people about an issue that I find very important. I am looking forward to growing as a leader, as well as just a person.
