This is because for years the rights of queer people have gone unchallenged. Now more than ever we see queer inclusive spaces in mainstream media, in cities across America, and even in the legal system. But this equality that was fought for is now being challenged. The new generation of queer people has lived comfortably for so long that we no longer know how to fight bigotry. My project will showcase how protest took form in music and drag for decades. The song list includes pieces that were used to speak up against issues past generations faced such as the Stonewall Riots, the AIDs Crisis, and finding peace in your queer identity. The song list is also meant to show that change can stem from anyone willing to use their voice for what they believe in. These songs will be performed in full drag because drag has always been the biggest catalyst for queer movements all over the world. The recital will break boundaries and open eyes to what older queer generations had to go through and how we can relate today. This project should inspire the audience to think about what it means to fight for queer rights.
