Jimmy Crawford has been the head boys and girls tennis coach at Lovington High School for 19 years. His boys team has finished in the quarterfinals or higher in New Mexico for 15 consecutive years. Jimmy has twice been named coach of the New Mexico North-South All-Star Tennis team. He is a member of the New Mexico Activities Association Tennis Sports Specific Committee.
Jimmy and his wife Carolyn have 3 boys, all who are accomplished tennis players. His youngest son currently plays Division II tennis.
Ryan Galindo is the head coach for both the girls and boys programs at Carlsbad High School in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He was the volunteer assistant for 2 years, varsity assistant for 3 years and has now been the head coach for 25 years.
Ryan has been the New Mexico Tennis Coach of the Year four times and a NFHS National Coach of the Year finalist 3 times. His teams have won 8 state team titles, including 5 team titles in a row with the girls and 3 titles with the boys teams. He has also coached numerous singles and doubles state championships.
Richard (Dick) Johnson has been the La Cueva High School Boys Tennis Coach for 31 years. He has won 9 State Championships and 25 District Championships. He was awarded the USPTA National High School Coach of the Year in 2016, the New Mexico High School Coach of the Year in 2017, the New Mexico Tennis Coach of the Year in 2019, and the NHSACA National Tennis Coach of the Year in 2019. In 2008 he was inducted into the USTA Southwest Hall of Fame.
He is the current president of the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame. He has been married for 48 years to his wife, Marcie. They have 2 pups: Gizmo and LuLu.
Pat McGrath has coached the Farmington High School girls for the past 27 years. Before that he coached basketball, track, and cross country and taught junior high social studies for 33 years. Farmington has about 12 district championships, five state runner ups, and seven state titles.
Andrea Meyer grudgingly began playing tennis in Tucson as a high school freshman. “I knew nothing about tennis, but was sure that it was a supremely sissy sport, a real cinch. Thirty minutes later and with an aching wrist, I had reversed my opinions and fallen in love,” she recalls.
She holds a BA and Masters Ed from the UA where part of her coursework was in athletic coaching. After retiring from teaching high school English and PE, Andrea became a USPTA professional and has coached the Mingus Union girls' team for many years, JTT teams, and teaches Tennis in the Schools for the USTA in the Verde Valley. Andrea was selected as the Southwest USPTA High School Coach of the Year in 2019.
Dave Shambach has taught privately and served as a director and instructor for parks and recreation and country club tennis for 45 years in the Buffalo, NY area and since his move in 2016 to Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
He taught high school English and Social Studies for over 30 years and has coached for 40 years as a volunteer for girls’ teams and as a head coach and a volunteer coach for boys’, middle school, and JTT in Western New York and in Rio Rancho.
He comes from a tennis playing family of 6 and played high school, Division III, and USTA team tennis.
Kristie Stevens is the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Ironwood Ridge High School in Tucson, Arizona. This is her 30th year in education. Prior to going into Administration, Kristie coached the Girls Tennis Team at Catalina Foothills for 27 of those years.
She grew up playing tennis in Oklahoma and played USTA Junior Tennis in the Missouri Valley Section. Kristie attended Scripps College in Claremont, California and played Division III College Tennis for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
Arizona has always been home for Kristie and her family. Born in Phoenix, Kristie has generations of family in Tucson. Her sister Meredith (Geiger) Walton and brother Bryan Geiger both played tennis at ASU. Kristie’s son and daughter competed in High School sports and went on to be collegiate athletes. Her husband, Mark is the softball coach at Catalina Foothills High School.
Amy has been the head coach at the Albuquerque Academy since 2000. She is a USPTA certified elite professional, teaching tennis full time. Amy is on the board of the USTA NNM regional council and a national committee member of the USTA Local Play and Competition Committee.
She has a daughter, a junior, who plays high school and tournament tennis.
