Understanding Project Based Learning

In 6th grade science, students will study content through projects... a process called Project Based Learning. Through group and individual projects, students will demonstrate their understanding of specific 6th grade science learning goals. The theme for projects is New York State and The Finger Lakes Region. Students will choose an area of study that interests them within the theme and will be guided through the completion of projects in that area of study. Their projects will include designing questions, in-depth research, communication with people who are knowledgeable in the area of study, field studies, creation of physical representations of the learning, public speaking for the sake of sharing the learning, and building individual electronic portfolios for the purpose of saving, evidencing and sharing accomplishments. Project Based Learning is active and fun! I look very forward to working on projects and learning right alongside my students! We will learn together!
