There is absolutely no experience required to join the Grease Monkeys! Even if you have never touched a tool before in your life, the team is here to help you learn. As with any team or business, there are both technical and non-technical skills needed. We also need members with skills in social media, photography, fundraising and safety. Everyone contributes to the success of the team. Members can be on multiple teams or can just choose one to focus one
Design Team - Use CAD programs to design the robot; prototype mechanisms; test out solutions to different problems.
Build Team - Turn raw metal and parts into the body of the robot. Learn to use tools like bandsaws, grinders, drills, end mills, lathes, and CNC machines to produce all the parts that will make up the robot.
Electronics Team - Do all the wiring of the robot, test and maintain batteries, make sure the wiring is neat and easy to repair if necessary. Learn how to do electronics work, run and splice wires, make connections, and troubleshoot circuits.
Programming Team - Design and modify code that controls the robot. The robot must operate both with a driver controlling it and autonomously, when it operates without a driver input and runs a program to perform a set of directions. No programming experience is necessary, just a desire to learn.
Safety Team - Safety is very important. The safety team ensures that all rules and guidelines are followed and that we have the proper safety equipment.
Business Team - Keep records, communicate with other teams, create pins and stickers to give away as promotional material, come up with presentations for side competitions at each event (Entrepreneurship Award, Impact Award, Safety Award, etc.).
Media Team - Document all events both in and out of season, take pictures at events and field trips, share images on our social media, show off what the team is up to. Keep the website up to date.
Events Team - There is a lot that goes into competitions. They usually involve staying multiple nights in a different city and competing at an unfamiliar place. The events team prepares the team with information so the trips run smoother.
