School Counselor
Carie Childers
Hello! My name is Carie Childers and I am the South Point Middle School Counselor. I am excited to help our students become independent, responsible, and productive humans that will strive to make a more positive influence on our school and community. I have the privilege of supporting, encouraging, and advocating for our students as they continue to develop socially, emotionally, and intellectually. It is a most rewarding job, and one that I take seriously.
As the SPMS Counselor, my primary responsibility is to design and deliver a school counseling program that helps improve student outcomes. I believe that fostering resilience, self-awareness, self-advocacy, equity, and leadership are pivotal to whole-child development, which increases student achievement, better attendance, and more discipline. Through a comprehensive school counseling program, my goal is to focus on academic, career, and social-emotional development. I am for our students, and I will work to help instill kindness, responsibility, a desire for excellence, life-long learning, and good citizenship.
I believe in the power and pride of being a Pointer! My husband and our four children are all South Point alumni. I have been a high school teacher in the South Point Local School District for more than ten years and am the current SPHS girls' soccer and dance team coach. I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education, and Master of Arts in Instructional Processes and Strategies from Marshall University. Additionally, I received my Master of Arts in School Counseling and Education Specialist in School Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands.
I extend my most sincere welcome to you and your family as we journey together through this academic year at South Point Middle School. I look forward to getting to know each of you. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time via email at cchilders@southpoint.k12.oh.us or by phone at 740-377-4343 ext. 3000. My door is always open, and I'm here to support you and your family.
