Before more Making of our own, examine how everyday objects are made. This activity comes from Project Zero, and helps students start to understand how different parts work together, and how remixing different parts can help us to make something new.

MAKERSPACE ACTIVITY #4: PARTS, PURPOSES, & COMPLEXITIES
After choosing an object in your own space, complete the Parts, Purposes, Complexities activity. Look closely at the object. What do you notice? What parts are involved? How are different parts interconnected? Feel free to take your object apart--see what is inside! As you complete this activity, see what you can find--are there aspects to your object that you never noticed before? Create some sort of chart or poster like the sample to help you organize what you find.

When finished with the Parts, Purposes, Complexities activity, take a photo of your object, and upload it with an answer to the following prompt.
Prompt: What surprised you in this activity? What does this have to do with Making in the classroom? How did this activity make you think deeper about your object? How could this activity help students come up with ways to repurpose items?
