Project Summary

The transition of students from grades 5 and 6 to grades 7 and 8 in the Southern Tioga School District can be an exciting yet scary experience. This project acknowledged both aspects and the experiences of middle school students.

Grades 7 and 8 students at North Penn - Liberty and North Penn - Mansfield High Schools had the opportunity to reflect upon and write about their transition to the high school, focusing on the challenges they faced. They considered the concerns of their peers as well as studied adolescence through literature and expert researchers to produce middle school survival guides that would be shared with grades 5 and 6 students.
