Keeping a healthy and balanced diet is very relevant when talking about maintaining good health. Eating the right proportions helps to keep a nourishing daily intake of foods. Nowadays, more and more people’s diets include food high in energy, fats, sugars and salt or sodium, lacking in fruits and vegetables. Eating well has an impact on the way we think, look, and feel. Water is also an important factor when it comes to keeping yourself healthy. In this webpage we will talk about why it is important to keep a healthy and balanced diet and how to do it.

To maintain a healthy diet, it is important to find the perfect balance between vegetables, fruits, meats, eggs, oils, fats, dairy products, flours, and cereals. Diets will be different depending on each one's individual characteristics such as gender, level of physical activity, and lifestyle. Another important factor that will vary each one’s diet is their cultural background, the food that is available in their local area and the person's budget. But there are some general guidelines that a healthy diet should always follow.
Many people are unaware of the high levels of salt and sugar in their daily meals. Most processed foods contain large amounts of salt and sodium, although this isn't commonly notified. Our consumption of sodium also increases when we add salt while cooking or to the food once it is prepared.
Many other people even put salt to their food without trying it first, creating a bad habit in which no matter how salty food is, it will always have added salt, leading to a sodium excess.
Eating a lot of sodium may lead to issues with blood pressure issues, the heart and even cause a seizure.
On the other hand, the excessive consumption of free sugar increases our chances of getting various diffculties like dental caries, issues with blood pressure and diabetes.
Studies showed that consuming meals and drinks high in free sugar may contribute to overweight or obesity, and lowering its cosumption decreases the chances of getting a cardiovascular disease.
Eating a healthy and balanced diet prevents you from having problems with your body weight, leading to malnutrition and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer.
Our nutrition starts early, even during pregnancy. If a pregnant woman follows a healthy diet, it reduces the baby’s chances of being overweight and developing NCDs.

MALNUTRITION
Globally:
At the moment, according to UNICEF, at least one out of three children globally does not have the proper growth because of malnutrition. At least one out of two children suffers from deficiency of essential nutrients and two out of three children lack the minimum food required for them to grow healthy.
Data can help to end malnutrition across Africa, writes Kofi Annan. https://www.afdb.org/sites/default/files/styles/1700x900/public/csm_malnutrition_is_a_global_problem_91d62f3d0c.jpg?itok=npj8JiSW
Argentina:
According to UCA (Catholic University of Argentina), Argentinian diets lack fruits, vegetables, cereals, whole grain flours, legumes, grains and fermented food. Only 11% of the population from this nation follows a high quality diet while 39% has a poor diet that lacks the sufficient nutrients.
Argentinian’s alimentation is principally based on wheat-derived foods, sugar, and red meat. These includes: pasta, cookies, bread, sodas, snacks, sweets, cow meat, etc. Although these foods provide great amounts of energy, they lack some essential nutrients. This incomplete diet may lead to overweight or malnutrition.
But Argentina’s nutrition problems don’t only come out of bad alimentation but also because of poverty. Actually, according to UNICEF, 66% of Argentine children are in a poverty situation. This means that 66% of the children are deprived of an appropriate education and housing. Since that is the main worry of the country they leave malnutrition behind.

EATING DISORDERS
Argentina:
In Buenos Aires one out of three young women suffer from binge eating, bulimia nervosa or anorexia. On average these disorders are suffered by teens between twelve and fifteen years old. These aren’t just nutritional problems since they involve social, genetic, and psychological problems.
The main characteristics of the disorders are:
An excessive concern about our physical appearance and weight.
Distortion of body image.
Many weight control practices (diets, excessive physical exercise, and disordered eating routines)
Even though these disorders may affect anyone they are more common in teen girls. On an average of ten cases, nine or eight are from women.

According to Barcellini, a licensed nutritionist, the use of social media has a great influence on these disorders because of the standards it generates. Also the lockdown because of the coronavirus pandemic created a great deal of insecurities summed up with the social standards. And because of this the number of cases increased an important amount.
The recovery for these disorders usually lasts two years and requires a lot of help from a professional.

CULTURES
Vegan Diet:
The vegan diet is based on plants and foods made from them. This includes vegetables, grains, nuts, fruits, etc. Vegans do not eat food that is derived from animals (eggs, meat, milk, etc), and there are many reasons that would make a person want to become vegan:
Mainly is because of an ethical reason, since they care for animals and don't want to see them suffer. Exploitation of animals is now very common in the food industry.
Many others have come to be aware of the impact this has on the environment. There’s a large amount of cereal that is necessary for animal feeding.

Asian Diet:
Asian food is considered one of the healthiest, since they eat almost no saturated fats or dairy products, they eat very little red meat, replacing it with chicken and fish, and the only complex carbohydrate they consume is rice.
In addition, their way of cooking also adds value since they use very little oil and almost always use steam cooking. As for added sugar, they hardly consume it, since desserts are usually made from fruits.
Muslim Diet:
On the other hand, another very interesting and distinguished diet, is the one of the Muslims in the ninth month of their calendar: Ramadan. This month is very different from any other, since for religious reasons, they fast from dawn to dusk for the entire month. This is precisely very contradictory to what a healthy diet would be, but it is still a diet. This shows to what extent customs and beliefs can influence what we eat, whether it is good or not.
