Student Assistance Program (SAP)

The purpose of the Student Assistance Program (SAP) is to recognize barriers to learning and design interventions to maximize academic success and monitor their effectiveness. SAP often assists students with academic and attendance concerns. SAP is available in all K-12 public schools in Pennsylvania.

A student can be referred to the program by a teacher, parent, the students themselves, or another student. Any parent who feels their child could benefit from the program or would like more information should contact their child's school counselor. SAP is a parent voluntary program.

The embedded video (below or to the right) gives more information about what SAP is and how it works.

Knights Assistance Program (KAP)

The Knights Assistance Program (KAP) is an educational resource support program for students in Knoch Middle School and Knoch High School. The goal of the program is to connect with students and assist them in the engagement with the academic and social learning process.  Students who are experiencing social-emotional, learning, attendance, and/or connection challenges have the opportunity to participate in this program within the school setting.

The program consists of two teachers who are certified in Mathematics and English Language Arts.  Students will have the opportunity to attend these two classrooms for the entire school day or periodically as determined by the intervention intake team. A professional with mental health training and experience (intervention specialist) will be part of the program and intervention team. This intervention specialist will provide group and individual counseling supports.  The intervention specialist will also coordinate meetings for intake, progress monitoring, intervention, and exit summaries for the program. The intervention specialist will act as a liaison with building counselors, community counselors, program teachers, parents, and other resources. An emphasis of both the intervention specialist and program teachers will be developing social-emotional learning skills, as well as academic supports.

Students who receive support through KAP will be able to attend school, participate in extra-curricular activities, complete schoolwork, and receive small group or individual academic and social emotional support in a safe, structured environment.  As students continually build skills to be successful and safe, they will transition back to traditional classroom settings.  Supports will be adjusted and available to each student in KAP according to their progress and present functioning.  The ultimate goal of KAP is to develop connected, engaged, and resilient students who can effectively apply coping skills in life.

School-Based Therapy

The Knoch School District has partnered with Family Psychological Services to have a therapist on-site to assist students with a variety of mental health and behavioral concerns.  Students will be pulled from a Study Hall or Special Area Class.  If interested, please contact your child's school counselor.

Tutoring

Tutoring is offered during every Study Hall in the High School Library.

If the tutoring options do not suit your needs, please contact your counselor to discuss other options.
