Learning Modules

A mini-course has been designed by four USA faculty members to help students better understand the concepts of sustainability and solid waste recycling, reusing, reducing, and rethinking. Please contact Dr. Shenghua Wu (shenghuawu@southalabama.edu) to request the learning module content. 

Objectives of Each Module

Module 1: Gain a fundamental understanding of sustainability, solid waste management and recycling, carbon emissions and infrastructure;

Module 2: Describe materials origins, generation, materials characteristics, and identify issues of several common solid wastes including plastics and glass;

Module 3: Understand how to track the environmental impacts via feasible tools such as life cycle assessment and life cycle cost analysis, and reliable environmental database, explore innovative techniques to reduce and repurpose solid wastes;

Module 4: Work on community problem solving project.
