Adinkra Symbols
In collaboration with the 3rd & 4th Grade Iconography unit this year, students explored Adinkra symbols in Art class. Adinkra symbols are an African symbol system, originating in Ghana. The class identified some symbols that they connected with (values such as wisdom, patience, and resilience) and used pastel techniques to draw three symbols. They then used an India Ink wash process to create a resist. Finally, students framed their three Adinkra symbols. Each art piece here represents values that the artist holds, and is a visual representation of their inquiries this year into Iconography and Symbology.
