Vision and Image Processing Lab

Welcome to Vision and Image Processing Lab (VIPL)!

At VIPL, we conduct fundamental and applied research on explainable deep learning for vision and image processing. We develop state-of-the-art techniques for various practical applications, including the enhancement, generation and restoration of 2D images and 3D data.

In particular, we seek to develop interpretable and trustworthy AI systems that combine data-driven learning with human understanding. Our research aims to create sustainable and scalable solutions that go beyond visual capabilities and make AI more accessible, reliable and effective in everyday life.

Our clear vision is to make the invisible visible and the complex simple.

[Postdoc recruiting: AI-driven Marine Biology]

• • Collaborative Opportunity: I am pleased to announce two postdoc fellowships at the Umea Marine Science Centre, a center with which I work closely and which focuses on AI-driven marine biology research.

  • Research Focus: The positions involve using AI to analyze the growth dynamics of long-lived algae and multi-model predictions for the survival of coral reefs.

  • Qualifications: We are looking for candidates with a PhD in AI-driven image analysis or ecological modelling.

  • Timeline: Applications will be considered starting March 16, 2026.
