Description: You'll select a personally-relevant article each week and write a brief response in two parts: a critique from your perspective as a research and a possible classroom application from your perspective as a language teacher.

Details: 36% of your overall score. Generally speaking, if you follow the instructions, you should expect to receive full points.

cmc a702 attendance and participation

Description: Missed classes cannot be made up for substituted. Participating with classmates is required for this course.

Details: 29% of your overall score (roughly 15 weeks x 2, calculated at the end of the semester)

• • This is graded simply: attend (-0.0) / unexcused absence (-2.0) / excused absence (-1) / late within 20 minutes (-0.5).

  • As long as you are not rude to classmates, your personality doesn't influence this score at all. Just come to class  and do the best you can.

  • The first absence will be forgiven (as long as it is not an assessment day). However, two absences automatically reduces your overall score by 10%.  

    • Arriving late twice counts as an absence.

    • Arriving 30 minutes late (or more) counts as an absence.

  • If you are going to be absent/late email as early is possible, so I can adjust my in-class teaching plans. 

    • Similar to all elements of university, you are expected to show your maturity. In this case, this means being proactive about be prepared and being responsible for missed details. As one specific example - if you miss a class, you are still responsible for checking all of the materials and talking to classmates about what you missed.  As another specific example - if there is an assignment due, you are expected to turn it in on time, even if or when you miss classes.

Description: You will write a two- to three-page literature review (approximately 1,000–1,200 words) that analyzes, critiques, and connects at least three peer-reviewed research articles on a focused topic within CMC in TESOL.  (I will send a template later this week.)

cmc a704 Project 2 - research supported CMC teaching practices (final write-up due 12/16 by 5 pm)

Description: Based on your selected research articles and your synthesis from project 1, you'll propose ~3 realistic and research-supported teaching practice that you can realistically apply in your teaching context. I'll ask you to do a medium level (but informal) demonstration of a lesson from one of your three proposed teaching practices.
