6: Reactions

Journey 6 (Reactions) was my favorite Journey. Not only did everything we learn throughout the semester meld together perfectly in my mind, the experiments and labs were great extra foundations to my understanding. We wrapped up the semester with I.C.E Tables and PV=nRT equations that included the skills we learned from the very beginning. Skills like, balancing equations and converting grams to moles. We also learned about the different types of reactions; sythesis, decomposition, single replacement, etc. My favorite part about this final journey was seeing how everything fit together at the end.

The first thing we did in this experiment was balance the equation so we could intice the proper reaction out of the elements' combination.

2H2+1O2--->2H2O+HEAT

The first thing we did was fill the bottle up completely with water. Then we flipped it upside-down in a bucket of water so that the water didn't escape from the bottle. Then we fed a tube into the bottle and filtered Oxygen into it by combining H2O and Calcium pieces in a beaker. Next we brought our bottles outside and sparked the reaction. The coolest part of this experiment (besides the bottle flying in the air) was thinking about how if the bottle wasn't containing what was in it, it would kill us! Mind=BLOWN! (not literally) Also I thought it was really interesting how Ramsey was talking about the future of power for cars being similar to this experiment.
