Project Requirements

Marketing Requirements

MR.1. The device will be able to accept VOC profiling algorithms and feature a demo algorithm.

MR.2. The device will have an LCD display and a simple GUI capable of displaying and managing sensor data. Users can navigate the GUI using a button-based Dpad.

MR.3. The device will have replaceable VOC sensors in an easily accessible location.

MR.4. The device will be handheld.

MR.5. The system will have a rechargeable battery with a reasonable battery life.

MR.6. The system will be reasonably easy to use, and won’t require special training.

MR.7. The system will take sensor data recorded through our device and save it onto an external memory card.

MR.8. The device will feature a buzzer and built-in timers to help users follow a testing schedule.

Engineering Requirements

ER.1. The device will feature a trained machine learning algorithm that can differentiate between two hand sanitizers with 75% accuracy.

ER.2. The GUI will be designed with readability and color contrast in mind.

ER.3. The device’s VOC sensors will be located in an easily accessible spot attached via sockets for easy replacement.

ER.4. The device will be within 7 inches long, 5 inches wide, and 2 inches tall.

ER.5. The device will have a 1200 mAh lithium polymer battery sufficient to power the device for a minimum of six tests.

ER.6. The UI will be straightforward to use for those who struggle with technology. The UI can be navigated via a D-pad. A user can get results within 5 steps.

ER.7. The device will automatically format data and store it on an SD card.

ER.8. The device will have a buzzer and built-in timers that will alert the user of when to take a measurement.
