Sonoda Engineering Co., Ltd. is a machine manufacturer that manufactures and sells machine tools (slitting machines, shear lines, levelers) that shear steel plates such as iron, aluminum, and copper. Steel sheets are used in many things around us, such as automobiles, home appliances, mobile phones, computers, and water pipes.

The beginning of unconventional Sonoda engineering
Sonoda Engineering Co., Ltd. started in Osaka in 1971 as a machine design company. However, the machine manufacturers at that time had little idea of the user's point of view, and no version upgrade (improvement) was made for usability. We questioned the attitude of such manufacturers, and started manufacturing machines designed in-house, considering user convenience and cost reduction. And the machine became popular and exploded. 41 years ago (1977), we started export sales to Southeast Asia, including Thailand, and South America. Developing countries at that time had a great demand for steel sheets used for water pipes. Most of our customers were local companies, but our company's staff cultivated customers and conducted direct transactions without going through trading companies. After more than 40 years, the owners of both our company and our customers have taken over, but the relationship of trust and transactions continue to this day.

Sonoda Engineering Co., Ltd. is characterized not only by Japanese customers but also by overseas customers. For example, we started trading with a major Taiwanese EMS company that manufactures electronic devices by contract 24 years ago (before they entered China). The slitters and levelers used by the company to shear steel sheets are all made by Sonoda. Adopted by the company, the reputation that "it will not break even if it is operated 24 hours a day" was gradually transmitted to other companies, and orders were flooded. There is also a story that even major electronics and electronic parts manufacturers in other countries "check the existence of Sonoda-made slitter equipment" when ordering the shearing of steel sheets from a subcontractor. When the slitter was delivered to American customers in the latter half of the 1990s, it was sometimes described as the "revolution of the slitter" because it was compact and easy to use.

As mentioned above, Sonoda's business began with design. At the start of machine manufacturing, one designer carried out all the design, machine manufacturing arrangements, shipping arrangements, installation in the customer's factory, and operation guidance. This is the style of Sonoda's work, in which each staff member does an almighty job. Since we can do everything by ourselves, we can boldly make design changes according to the customer's situation and demands and make manufacturing arrangements immediately. Utilizing this mobility, Sonoda staff travel around the world to solve various problems of customers, and the solution know-how is accumulated in-house. The accumulated know-how is fused with IoT technology to become business improvement software, which is introduced to factories around the world. Sonoda goes beyond the framework of a machine maker to develop software.
