Transition Program

The Somerset High School Transition Program is a student focused program offered to students 18 through 21 with special education services. Students learn and improve on independent living skills, vocational skills, social skills and academic skills.

The SHS Transition program fosters:

Academic Skills: Functional math, functional reading and functional writing skills.

Vocational skills: Volunteering at local community businesses such as; the food pantry, senior living facilities, childcare facilities, libraries and much more. Students are constantly working on vocational skills that interest the individual and explore a variety of career options.

Independent living skills: Time management, overcoming challenges, personal goal setting, cooking, cleaning, following directions, interpersonal strengths, organization, making appointments, and using a calendar.

Social skills: How to greet others, communication, keeping personal boundaries, using manners, helping others when needed, doing non-preferred tasks.
