Superintendent's Message

Greetings to each and every one of you!

Welcome to the 2019 Referendum Website! I hope you find the information within this website valuable and helps you make an informed decision on April 2nd.

The Mission of the Somerset Schools is:

“Together we Engage, Educate, & Empower all learners; Bridging their passions to pathways to create successful futures and positively contribute to our local communities”

In order to fulfill our mission and our commitments to our students, employees, and community, we feel it is necessary to go to our voters at this time to ask for additional financial support. This support comes in the form of two questions that will be placed on the spring ballot.

The first question is for a $28.6 million “Capital Improvements” bond to:

  • Improve safety and security for students, staff, and community
  • Address aging building infrastructure
  • Update educational spaces

The second question is for a $1,000,000 Operational Levy to protect:

  • Class size
  • High School elective courses
  • Transportation options
  • Curriculum and training
  • Athletics and co-curricular offerings
  • Current staffing levels
  • District-wide technology upgrades

Now is the time to reinvest in our schools! If we act now, you will see a minimal increase in your property taxes.

We have a significant amount of building repairs that need immediate attention and are considered “high priority” while other facility issues deal with mechanical systems coming to the end of their life cycle and are not fully operational or not working at all.

The additional dollars generated through the Operational Levy will help us address the need for a maintenance fund to tackle our larger facility needs in the future on a yearly basis. It will also allow us to offer a regionally competitive compensation plan to attract and keep our high qualified employee base.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to learn more about the upcoming April 2, 2019 school district referendum. If you have any further questions, or if you would like to visit personally about the information within this website, please feel free to contact me at (715) 247-3313.

With great respect,

Dr. Mark R. Bezek
