Class Overview
This year our goal is to build and understand connections to the world through fiction and nonfiction text. Not only will we read great stories and learn how writers develop characters, but we will also become stronger writers through peer collaboration and the editing process; exhibited in our writing portfolios. This year you will continue to grow and learn lessons about yourselves, each other, and the world around you. These lessons will travel with you throughout the rest of your life!
About me
Hello and welcome to grade 8 Language Arts! My name is MaryBeth Lipman and I am super excited to be your child’s teacher this year. I live in Ellington with my husband, Jason, our kids, Ben and Emma, and the best dog in the world, Lily! This is my 13th year teaching and I feel extremely lucky to be a part of the staff here at MBA. I am very passionate about reading and helping students learn how to think for themselves and express their ideas. When I am not in the classroom you will find me reading, playing games with my family, or riding my Peloton (I’m a little obsessed!). I also love to visit art museums, see live theater, travel, and try new foods (photo on the left is my son’s 18th birthday where we tried Mediterranean food for the first time!).
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me: marybeth.lipman@somers.k12.ct.us or 860.749.2270 x5202. I check email frequently throughout the day, so that is the quickest way to reach me. I return phone calls after 2:20 PM. I’m looking forward to partnering with you this year!
