Kindergarten Registration for the 2026-2027 School Year
Registration for Fall 2026 Kindergarten entry is open NOW!
All Connecticut districts have a new age requirement for the incoming Kindergarten class. Effective in the fall of 2024, children need to turn five on or before September 1 of the school year to be eligible to enroll in public school Kindergarten. This is a change from the previous Kindergarten enrollment birthdate cutoff of January 1.
For the 2026-2027 School Year, school districts can admit a child who has not turned five by September 1 of the school year if (1) the parent/guardian makes a request in writing and (2) the school district conducts an assessment of the child to ensure that admitting such child is developmentally appropriate.
The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) and the Office of Early Childhood (OEC) have issued a joint memo on this recently enacted change by the Connecticut General Assembly. The joint memo is available in English here and in Spanish here.
If your child is age eligible (turning 5 years old on or before September 1, 2026), you may begin registration by completing the pre-registration form that is linked below.
If you have a child born between September 2, 2021 and January 1, 2022 and do not wish to request early Kindergarten enrollment for Fall 2026, no action is needed.

STEP ONE:
On-line Registration

STEP TWO:
Proof of Residency & Birth Cert.
The following documents will need to be uploaded upon receipt of the "Somers Enrollment" Email. This email will contain directions on how to set up a Power School Account to complete the enrollment process.
For proof of your student's identity:
Student's birth certificate
For proof of Parent/Guardian's identity, one (1) of the following:
Current driver's license
Current State of CT issued ID
Current passport
Current Permanent Resident Alien Card
For proof of Somers residency, one (1) of the following:
Rental Agreement showing tenant’s full name(s) and physical Somers address.
Signed lease agreement; warranty deed or mortgage deed or certificate of occupancy showing resident’s name(s) and physical Somers address.
Current gas, water or electric bill showing resident’s name(s) and physical Somers address.
STEP THREE:
Medical Documentation
Medical clearance must be obtained prior to the first day of in-person school in order to attend.
These documents can be uploaded once you have created a Power School Account (see registration Step Two).
The following is required to obtain medical clearance:
A Current Physical (within the last 13 months)
A Copy of Student's Immunization Records
A Completed Health Assessment Form
