Special Olympics Ontario (SOO) is excited to announce the launch of our Hometown Games (HTG) program in partnership with Special Olympics Barrie. Hometown Games is an opportunity for athletes to compete and have fun in an all-inclusive environment!

Special Olympics Ontario is proud to support Special Olympics Barrie during Hometown Games. Our mission is to create an atmosphere for athletes to compete in a fun, friendly and safe environment!

8:50 am Coaches Meeting

9:00 am Opening Ceremonies

9:10 am First Game

12:10 pm Games completed

12:30 pm Medal presentations


Facility

  • Indoor-turf field in a dome, using outdoor balls.

  • Only actively playing teams will be permitted on the court; all others to remain in designated team space until called to play.

  • Spectators will be restricted to designated perimeter.

  • Only water will be permitted in the playing area.

  • All other food and drinks may only be consumed in designated areas.

Format:

Four-player teams (may be five players with substitutions).

Games will be to a winning score of 16 points or maximum time of 20 minutes, whichever comes first. Timer will sound a 2-minute warning after which no new frame will be started.

3 points for a win; 2 points for a tie; 1 point for a loss.

Levels:

Bluejays:

Play a well-paced game independently with no help from coaches; understand scoring and execute strategy

Orioles:

Play independently with limited help from coaches; understand scoring; understand strategy

Cardinals:

Play somewhat independently with occasional help and reminders from coaches; may need help scoring.

Robins:

Players need more help from coaches; need help scoring; limited understanding of strategy.

Wrens:

Players require full assistance from coaches for taking turns and need reminder on playing the game; may use ramps.
