📚 Summer Reading Requirements – Dig Into Learning
The ELA Department of South Orangetown Central School District encourages all students to continue exploring through reading over the summer. Research shows that students who read regularly uncover stronger academic growth during the school year.
🦕 Students entering grades 6, 7, and 8 should read at least two books, fiction or nonfiction. (Books of approximately 500+ pages may count as two.) This is just the beginning—challenge yourself to dig deeper and discover even more stories!
🌟 Show What You’ve Discovered
At the start of the school year, students will share what they’ve uncovered in their reading. Need help choosing your next “dig site”? Check out the suggested book lists and resources below.
🧠With so many new titles being published, students are also welcome to explore books beyond the provided lists. Teachers may have also shared recommendations in class or on their blog pages.
📖 Important Note: If your child selects a book that is part of the English Department’s curriculum, they will be expected to reread it during the school year.
