The Socrates Science Foundation was formed to support the creation and opening of the Socrates Science Charter High School; a school that will focus on preparing students for a career in Agriculture, Environmental Studies and/or Animal Science.
Since plants and animals require care every day, the Foundation will also run Summer Camps for elementary and middle school students, as well as job training programs and workshops for community members.
“Must we always teach our children with books? Let them look at the mountains and the stars up above. Let them look at the beauty of the waters and the trees and flowers on earth. They will then begin to think, and to think is the beginning of a real education.” — David Polis
Students will utilize each of the 93 acres on campus to learn about the health of our forests, fields, wetlands and waterways to determine how they can protect and advocate for conservation. Students might gain interest in a career with the Park Service, Environmental Engineering firm or other private consulting industry.
Students will learn how to grow produce and crops in many different modes; from greenhouses and hydroponics to raised beds and traditional gardens. Each grade will offer CSA shares so the community can benefit while integrating small business management and economics into our Ag. courses. Get ready for a future in Agriculture!
Students will work with the animals in our on-site adoption facility; providing care and training to all types of animals from guinea pigs and rabbits to dogs and cats, goats and sheep... you never know what will come through the doors. Thinking about working with animals or in veterinary medicine? This might be the school for you!
