About Me!

Hi, I'm Ms. Shores! I have always wanted to be a band director just like my parents! My main instrument is percussion but I love playing all kinds of instruments. Band is amazing because it is fun, creative, and let's you be part of an amazing team!

Class overview

Our ensembles are designed to develop and enhance the musical skill level of band students through interesting music literature, solid fundamentals, and exposure to various performance opportunities. Classroom activities are structured to provide opportunities for aesthetic expression. This ensemble depends on the successful effort and achievement of each individual to do their part to flourish. We ask that every individual contribute his or her part, as we are a team.

Benefits of band may include, but are not limited to: Enhances higher brain functions, improves reading and math performance, raises IQ scores, increases SAT scores, and provides students with important experiences that can help them develop physical coordination, timing, memory, leadership, teamwork, and can develop visual, aural, and language skills.

More about me: I was born in Phoenix, AZ and raised in Kansas. I began my teaching career in Kansas in 2011-2014 and also lived and taught in Milwaukee, WI from 2014-2020. I love to be outside hiking, walking, biking, and camping. Cooking and baking for my family (Chris and Porter) give me joy and I also do Barre workouts almost every day after work. My specialty is percussion and I can play lots of instruments. Steel pan is my musical hobby and I perform as ‘Island Shores’ outside of school.

My educational philosophy: Music in an integral piece in human existence. All scholars deserve to express themselves and create beauty through the arts. My band and music classes focus on life skills such as teamwork, responsibility, perseverance, and pride.

My professional goal: As an educator, I strive to spark the joy of learning, improving, and mastering musical skills to create a love and appreciation for all music and the arts.

Education: Kansas State University
