ΛCDM model has been established as the standard model of cosmology given its clear agreement with observational results and low number of model parameters (six). The paper discusses this model and one of its most crucial observables – the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), which providesconstraints to all ΛCDM parameters as well as internal consistency checks. The main goal is to mimic the results obtained by the Planck Collaboration in 2018 from the CMB anisotropy data by running independent Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulations on their dataset. The results obtained constrain the base-ΛCDM parameters to a good extent providing insight into the energy density distribution of the universe and also attempt at constraining Dark Energy parameter extensions to the model.

The Ising model is reviewed, first from a general perspective, and then specifically in the 2 dimensional square lattice space. Magnetic phase transitions, inferred by plotting magnetization per lattice site v/s temperature, are then discussed along with simulated results.

Data analysis was performed on signals obtained by GMRT radio telescope for Quasar 3C 286. Effects of auto-correlation and cross-correlation of data was explored and inference was drawn about the relative importance of values and signs of the data.
Code was developed by Kritti Sharma (IIT Bombay) and I. Presentation and report was prepared by me.

Abstract: Classical computation techniques have contributed in various fields in the past fifty years but are now reaching their theoretical thresholds. In this scenario, quantum computation strikes as an obvious alternative. Here, an introductory insight into quantum computation, described by the quantum circuit model, is provided and physical realizability of quantum computers is discussed. An overview of quantum algorithms like Shor’s Factorization Algorithm and Quantum teleportation is also provided, which hint towards quantum computation’s dominance over classical computation. Quantum noise poses a major challenge to quantum computation, given the fragile nature of quantum information. This can be dealt with by encoding the information using quantum error-correcting codes. Fault-tolerance can then be achieved under this framework, guided by the Threshold Theorem. A seemingly more promising method of fault-tolerance is also discussed, where topological properties of quasi-particles known as anyons restrict local perturbations from affecting the encoded quantum information at the hardware level itself. An all-encompassing example of the Ising anyon model under the scheme of Topological Quantum Computation is discussed, followed by a discussion on the major challenges and current development and research prospects in the field.
