Panuriginus crawfordi on Sorbus commixta
In this project, we aimed to evaluate pollinator diversity in the national forests (Mt. Gariwang and Mt. Yumyeong) and investigated their preference for honey plants. Also, we compared the difference in species diversity caught by a range of insects traps (i.e. Yellow & white pan trap, and Malaise trap).
The Asian honeybee (Apis cerana) was introduced into the Korean Peninsula about 2,000 years ago. Recently, the Asian honeybee industry undergoing immense shrinking since 2008 because of the Korean Sacbrood virus (KSBV). Also, most of the honey production has relied on a Robina pseudoacacia. Therefore, this project aims to evaluate alternative honey plants to recover from the shrinking industry. we investigate alternative honey plants and the preference of honeybee via direct sample collection and evaluate their seasonal composition in the central area of South Korea.
