It's beginning to look a lot like Winter!  The trimester has come to a close and the first report cards of the year will be out by week's end.  

 This week is our Santa Shoppe.  Our class attends on Wednesday and the family night is Thursday from 5-7 pm.

Next week, our last week of 2023, will be our book exchange on the 20th and Winter party on the 20th. 

The Holiday Spirit week is from the 18th -21st. 

The next PTO fundraiser is Monday, December 18th at Panda Express in Dover from 11-9.

Weekly update for 11/13-17 

Thank you families for such a wonderful class.  We have a new student, Liam Smith, that joined us on Monday! Welcome to Smyrna Elementary! 

Next week we have parent conferences on Monday, November 20th.  They are all day and I have reached outto those who have yet to sign up so that we can confirm a time to meet.  Thank you to those who have already signed up for your time.

Our donation box the needy families is not as full as I had hoped.  Please send it what you are able: canned vegetables, dried goods (pasta, potatoes- but no rice), peanut butter, jelly, canned tuna, canned chicken, oatmeal, granola bars, stuffing, mac n'cheese, ramen noodles, soup, deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner,condiments (ketchup, mustard, relish, etc). Donations are until November 30th and thank you for all that you are able to help with.

Food Drive Donation Schedule

Happy Halloween Week! There is a lot going on this week!  Besides our Halloween party and parade today, we are beginning our November Food Donation Drive -Sponsored by our wonderful PTO- on November 1st Wednesday) by bringing in cereal, pancake mix, and/or syrup. We also have our PTO fundraiser with Main Street Market from 3-6 tomorrow as well.  

Thursday is Picture Retake Day and bring in applesauce and/or fruit cups for the food drive.

Friday is an in-service Day so no school for the kiddos!!

Food Drive Donation Schedule 

Happy Friday and Happy Homecoming!  This has been a very busy week with all of our homecoming activities, culminating in a wonderful parade and exciting football game! 

Progress reports were sent home this week. A lot of information was given in the packet, with suggestions on how to increase your child's reading levels at home.

We are completing our Lit Lab in reading on Monday. We have been writing our own Magic Tree House books in class, and they need to be worked on in their Google Classroom this weekend and finished during our writing session Monday afternoon.  We are beginning our next unit, Weather and Climate, Monday morning during ELA.

Our Halloween festivities are planned for October 31st.  Our party is from 1:15-1:50 and the parade begins at 2:00.  Students are allowed to come to school dressed in their costumes, but absolutely no weapons of any kind.  I sent home a form to be filled out to determine what snacks we will have, how many to help with the party, and which children are going to need the alternative activities.  Please return the bottom portion of the form and return it by Thursday so that plans can be finalized.

Thank you to Mrs. Smallwood for again donating snacks to the class for those who either forget their snack or just cannot bring one.  Lunch is at 12:40 and we work hard and burn a lot of energy before then.  Refueling is needed to get through the rest of the morning.  If you'd like to donate snacks to the class we would gretly appreciate it, but please be aware that we have nut, gluten, peanut butter, and pineapple allergies (please check labels).

Happy Monday, Families!  This is another short week, with no school on Friday.  There are two events this week: Wednesday, 1/25- Bella Villa PTO fundraiser from 11-8 and Thursday, 1/26- STEM night at SES from 5:30-7:00.  The forms for the STEM event MUST be turned in by tomorrow!!

 I sent out a Class Dojo Sunday night to remind you that the permission to videotape your child needs to be returned to Miss Brittingham by tomorrow.  She needs to begin videoing small and whole group lessons this week  for her student teaching assignments.

Happy New Year and welcome back!!! This is a short, but busy week!  We will have our first multiplication timed test on Thursday and spelling test on Friday.  Each will normally be at the end of each week.  Please make sure to visit the Weekly Update for any and all news (this is also sent home each week on paper).  

Flyaway: The time is quickly coming for your babies to leave the SES nest and head to JBM.  We have a ceremony celebrating this so we need a baby picture of your baby to be included in the ceremony.  This picture needs to be crystal clear because it is going into a slide presentation.  I am asking that these pictures either be emailed to me (allena.brown@smyrna.k12.de.us) or sent in for me to scan and return to your child that day.  My deadline for this is Feb. 15th. Thank you to those who have already sent them in.

Happy Monday, Families!  I hope that all of you were able to enjoy the weekend.  The holidays are getting close and your kiddos are ready for a break.  We are having our holiday party and book exchange on the 21st. 

We will have our class party on Wednesday, Dec. 21st.  This will also be our book exchange.  I ask that you please wrap a book for the exchange, with no name on it.  The book can be one that is a favorite book or author- new or gently used.  Please have them wrapped and here in school by Friday (Monday at the absolute latest).  I will also send out a Class Dojo and sheet.
