Hello North Smyrna Elementary Students and Families!
My name is Mrs. Apgar (previously Ms. Brewer) and I am the reading specialist at NSE. This is my sixth year as the Reading Specialist at NSE. If you are new to North Smyrna, I want to say welcome to an amazing school! If you were a student at North last year, welcome back, and I can't wait to see you again! Prior to becoming the Reading Specialist, I taught 3rd and 4th grade at NSE. This year, you can find me in Room 213!
Please contact me by email at kailey.apgar@smyrna.k12.de.us if you have any questions. You can also call North Smyrna Elementary at 302-653-8589. I hope you are ready for an exciting school year! Remember to read, read, read, and love it!!!
Mrs. Apgar
Congratulations to our K-3 students who read and logged 20 steps during Spring Break! They earned the special 'mystery bag' prize, and were so excited for their reward. We were excited to finally reveal what was in the mystery bag.

Friday, January 30th - With another virtual learning day for SSD, students will write about their week! Please include details about either how you feel about virtual learning, if you played in the snow, and tell me about what you have done with family and/or friends. I encourage the students to draw a picture to match their sentences! Students can bring their writing to me when we return to NSE.
NSE Families,
I hope you are staying safe and warm in this winter storm! Hopefully your child(ren) have enjoyed their snow days. With virtual learning on Wednesday, January 28th and Thursday, January 29th, I encourage all students to read for 30 minutes and log 2 steps. Feel free to read books from school, home, or digitally through ARC Bookshelf. Linked below are different levels ("Classroom Resource Center" section, ex: Yellow, 1G, 2G, etc.) with reading activities that you can work on with your child during virtual learning. Also, under the "Reading Resources" tab below, you'll find a variety of websites that you can access to practice different reading skills that include read aloud stories and games. If your child is in my reading group, you'll receive more specific instructions through email, and can complete the activities linked below. Thank you!
