Of Ngāti Porou and Ngāti Uepohatu Indigenous descent – Dr Shaun Awatere is a researcher with Aotearoa’s Crown Research Institute - Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research and has actively supported Māori to manage collective assets more sustainably. He is currently engaged in research and policy to help prepare Māori tribal groups for climate change mitigation and adaptation planning. Shaun and a team of Nga Pae o Te Māramatanga (Aotearoa’s Māori Centre of Research Excellence) researchers have recently summarised the latest research and guidance surrounding observed and projected climate change impacts on Māori in Aotearoa-New Zealand. This research examines the impact of these changes on various interests and investments. It also provides insights on risk, uncertainty, knowledge gaps, and strategies for addressing climate change.
