Greetings future band and strings families!
Thank you for signing up for our Exploring Instruments Camp at Shawnee Mission North! We are excited to work with these kids May 31-June 2. Fortunately, we were able to secure enough instruments to ensure that all students will get to participate in the class for their first-choice instruments. Depending on instrument availability, many students were able to also fit into a second or third choice class. Rosters were compiled first by instrument choice ranking, and then by first come, first served order when adding second and third choice attendees.
Because so many students showed interest in a variety of instruments, we will spend part of our class time on Friday, June 2 allowing students to try any instrument they want for a few minutes. This will ensure they’ve had ample opportunities to make an informed decision about band or strings! If you didn’t get into every class you hoped for, you will still get a chance to play those instruments!
Please read the following information thoroughly to ensure a great camp experience.
Please check the class rosters for every instrument you signed up for, as many students are in more than one class! Rosters can be found here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oxVNoNhA9SkyH9FYltPdFOTfj1fA_clN/view?usp=share_link.
Students may be dropped off and picked up in the circle drive in front of the SMN auditorium lobby. See the map linked below for details: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cBNHVSPhoGlQHTDgfMJoIjzvlbV73VAN/view?usp=share_link
Students should check in each morning at the auditorium lobby, where they will be provided a name-tag and schedule. They will be directed to the band or strings room as indicated by their schedule.
Instruments and supplies will be assigned once they are in class and will remain in the band room or strings room for the duration of the camp.
Parents and guardians are welcome to stay and observe! We highly encourage you to stick around on the final day as we will open the class up to questions about next fall and allow students to try any instrument they want.
Students should NOT be left unattended at SMN between non-consecutive sessions.
Please reach out with any questions you may have. We’re looking forward to a great week!
