French 1 offers a basic understanding of the French language and of the culture and geography of the French-speaking world. Students can expect to understand, speak, read, and write French in the context of ordinary daily situations and topics such as family, school, numbers, telling time, sports, and clothing. Learning is enhanced through interactive activities, digital media, role playing, and authentic language activities.
In French 2, students continue to expand their skills in speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural awareness of the French- speaking world. In order to promote language proficiency, much of this class is taught in French.
Spanish 1 offers a basic understanding of the Spanish language and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. Students can expect to communicate in the context of ordinary daily situations and topics using scripted phrases, repetitive vocabulary and short sentences according to the ACTFL Proficiency Scale. Learning is enhanced through authentic language activities including reading, writing, listening and speaking.Â
Spanish 2 offers an extension of what students learned in Spanish 1. In order to promote language proficiency according to the ACTFL Proficiency Scale, students will receive some instruction in Spanish. Students should communicate using connecting words, strings of sentences and a variety of vocabulary through authentic language reading, writing, listening and speaking activities.
