Here are some fun activities that can be done at home.
ELA
It is essential that children practice their reading skills at home. They can read to you, a sibling, pet, grandparent, stuffed animal, etc.
Spelling words can be practiced in a lot of fun ways. Children can write their words using sidewalk chalk, colorful markers, etc.
Encourage your child to write at home. Perhaps they could write letters to a friend or relative. They could also keep a journal or diary.
Please practice sight words often. These are words that are found very often in books and are often difficult to sound out. You can use flash cards to practice sight words. There are also a lot of fun games you can play with these words. The goal is for children to be able to read them automatically both in isolation and in the context of sentences/stories.
Math
It is very important for the children to develop speed and accuracy with basic math facts.
Skip counting is a great activity to do while you are in the car! Try counting by 2's, 10's and 5's as well as counting to 100 (forwards and back).
It is essential that students in grades 3-5 know their multiplication facts. This will make math so much easier for them!
