LENT ON THE LEDGE: FINDING GOD IN ALL THINGS

In recent newspaper articles (yes I still receive a daily home delivery of a local newspaper) the word “chaotic” has become a literary theme.  It is the way some journalists choose to describe the state of our world these days.  Looking at current global realities, it is easy to see why.  I have read stories reporting on war and violence; disease ravaged nations; urban and rural hunger; people suffering grief, emotional chaos, fear, and injustice.  Along with these, dramatic economic shifts have caused chaos in the lives of millions.

On Ash Wednesday we were reminded: even now, says our God, return to me with all your heart. Even now in the face of chaos, we are called to find God, who Christians believe is found everywhere and in all things.

The liturgical season of Lent is traditionally a time of penance, fasting and almsgiving.  Christians reflect on opportunities to be more intentional about how their faith in the living God informs their choices and actions in a world so in need of mercy, love, healing and redemption.  It has been said that the virtue of any society can be measured by how the most vulnerable are treated.  Certainly the Gospel message supports this idea.

We treasure our Catholic identity and mission at SMSA.  It informs all our strategies.  We do our best to become a more reflective and conscious learning community.  As Ledgers develop deeper awareness of the mystery of the Incarnation and the Good News of the Gospel, we see them grow in curiosity and virtue.   Our students learn that through Jesus, God entered into solidarity with people of the ancient world, and with all people of all ages - especially those who suffer and are lost in a challenging, chaotic and often violent society.

This Lent, we will continue to turn our prayers and attention toward those who suffer - in our Springs community and the broader world -  in places like Ukraine, devastated by the brutal horror of war.

May God continue to help Ledgers grow in awareness of the needs of others.  During Lent, may our students embrace ways of helping others who are more needy than themselves.  May empathy and love - especially for the least among us - be what defines our lives as Ledgers and Christians.

Our Lady of the Ledge, pray for us.

Ledger Learning Guide

The Ledger Learning Guides are a rebranded version of the “Virtual Learning Guide” that was designed in March 2020 to serve parents, students, and teachers at the start of the virtual learning term. Moving forward, whether students are learning on the Ledge in person or online at home, the LLG will provide a weekly overview of course learning targets and access to course links. Teachers will be updating course pages and learning expectations prior to the beginning of each new academic week.

The Ledger Learning Guide will not be as comprehensive or detailed as Google Classroom or other course calendars/schedules but does provide a meaningful overview of all SMSA courses and content being learned.

The Ledger Learning Guide for the 2022-2023 Academic Year can be viewed here.
