"No experience? No problem. In this course, you'll learn everything you need for life in the wilderness-- how to pack a backpack, hike as a team, set up shelters, and even cook backcountry meals. You'll spend your days exploring the incredible desert landscape of Joshua Tree National Park -- famous for its giant boulders, twisted Joshua trees, and star-filled skies. Depending on the trip, you may go on multi-day backpacking expeditions, basecamp, or climb natural rock formations.
This isn't just an outdoor trip--it's an Outward Bound California adventure focused on challenge, teamwork, and self-discovery. The desert is beautiful and demanding, so be ready for early mornings, physical effort, and personal growth. You'll be supported every step of the way by your instructors and group.
Come ready to push yourself-- and leave with new skills, confidence, and unforgettable memories." -Enrichment Week 2026 Course Catalog
