Dear SMMA Families,

First of all THANK YOU for sending your shiny, happy student/s to SMMA!

The 2022-2023 school year marks my 29th year of teaching in the Archdiocese of St. Louis and my 10th year at SMMA School as the Technology Coordinator/Instructional Technology Specialist. I’ve previously taught at St. Clement of Rome School and St. Francis of Assisi Schools. I am a graduate of Saint Louis University, where I earned my Ph.D. in Educational Studies/Curriculum & Instruction. I earned both my BA, Elementary Education, and MAT, Education Technology, at Webster University. This summer I worked on becoming a certified Apple Learning Coach. I am also an Apple Teacher certified in both Mac and iPads. I am a Google for Education Certified Teacher, and I present at local, regional, and international education conferences, and enjoy organizing edcamps. A few of my professional honors include: Being voted by my peers to be St. Clement of Rome Teacher of the Year, METC (Midwest Education Technology Community) Spotlight Educator, and being featured in Today’s Catholic Teacher Magazine.

My husband Steve and I have a daughter who graduated from Nerinx Hall and MIZZOU and a son who is a graduate of SLUH and Knox College. Katie lives in St. Louis with her family, and Tom lives in Seattle with his family. In addition, we have been blessed with 3 beautiful grandchildren ages 4-8. Our golden retrievers, Gracie and Jackie, round out our family. This summer we had a small family reunion in Breckinridge, Colorado. It was the first time we were all together since 2019!

My hobbies include walking, reading, tinkering, and learning more about education technology and maker education. I love Disney, dark chocolate, paisley, dogs, and traveling.

I am thrilled to be a member of the amazing St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Community. My goal is to positively impact the way teachers teach and students learn by promoting best practices in technology integration, and designing constructivist and constructionist project-based learning experiences. I am excited to begin our seventh year in the SMMA Innovation Lab. The iLab is the intersection of my passion for edtech, my education and my experience. What is the SMMA Innovation Lab?

Computer Lab + media center + Makerspace = Innovation Lab

The Innovation Lab is a place to create, collaborate, communicate, explore, experience, play, and most of all, DREAM! As Walt Disney said, “If you can dream it, you can do it!” I am looking forward to creating and dreaming with teachers and students the Innovation Lab this school year!
