ACCES-VR Information

**Due to COVID-19 Regulations some services may be offered in a different way or suspended during this time**

- ACCES-VR is a state agency that provides Vocational Rehabilitation Services within New York State

- ACCES-VR creates an individualized employment plan for each client that can include

o Assistance in finding a job, resume writing, job coaching, interview skills, work readiness training, etc.

o Vocational Assessments prior to job developing – 2 day or up to 10 day

o Monetary assistance to a course at a trade/vocational school (this does not require looking at financial need)

§ If Wilson Tech has a program that is where they will pay for you to go. For another vocational program you need to show how it is different.

- The Following SERVICES are directly connected to FINANCIAL NEED

o Driver’s Training

§ You MUST meet financial need

§ You must have your permit first and have access to a car to reinforce what is taught in lessons

§ Only can be provided if using another service from ACCES-VR

§ Can only be provided the LAST year before exiting High School

§ If you do not attend school Driver’s Ed and pass your road test before the age of 18 you will only receive a Junior License. Please contact DMV directly with additional questions. You can’t drive to school with a Junior License.

o College Support – Monetary Assistance given only if you qualify for financial need up to SUNY rates

§ You must be enrolled in at least 12 credits

§ May be enrolled in 1 remedial course

§ Will only apply to a program outside of New York State if a comparable program can’t found

§ You must apply for FAFSA and provide proof of this to the ACCES-VR counselor – copy of application or financial aid award letter

- Each plan created is individualized based on the student’s goals, but all plans lead to the goal of part or full time employment.

- The mandatory orientation is currently suspended. ACCES-VR counselors will meet by phone with students who apply without an orientation. There are no in-person meetings at this time.

- All students with disabilities can apply for ACCES-VR services – Students who are legally blind will receive vocational services through the Commission for the Blind.
