AIMS AND VALUES

An understanding of number is essential for everyday life and is just as important as being able to read and write. However, mathematics is much more than arithmetic – we have calculators to do that for us. A good mathematics education develops students’ ability to think logically, solve problems, think strategically and develop resilience and tenacity.

The topics we teach develop these skills. and our curriculum offers opportunities to show students the connection between the maths in their lessons and that in everyday life, as there is real-life application of almost every form of mathematics. This does not mean that every student will use every piece of mathematics that they learn, but it does mean we can show them how we can use that bit of mathematics to understand and explain something around us.

Our aim is to develop each child’s ability to calculate; to reason logically, algebraically and geometrically; to solve problems and handle data to the best of their ability, so they can leave school with a good qualification in maths that is not only a prerequisite for progressing into quality jobs, apprenticeships and further education, but also to help them with everyday life.
