He introduced our wonderful Head Coach Ryan Higdon and his amazing coaching staff. We would like to thank Mr. Tullos and the Capitol for the recognition of our hardworking team!

A huge congratulations goes to Javarious Walker on his signing with Pearl River Community College for the upcoming football season!
When asked about playing at PRCC next year, Javarious said, " I love the campus, and I feel like I will love the team. The people seem pretty chill, and I'm ready to play ball at the next level."

We're so excited to watch you play!

Since the age of 7, Smith County 4-H’er Chase Boone has been showing mostly Simmental cattle in the Dixie National Junior Round-Up each year.

He is now a high school senior who will soon be moving on to college but not before a final appearance in one of his favorite livestock show events. He ended up exhibiting two supreme champion livestock -- the supreme beef female and the supreme beef bull -- and was named one of six premier exhibitors.

It was a successful send-off if not a bittersweet one.

“I’m going to miss being actively involved in the show ring and being on the end of a halter leading into the ring,” Boone said. “It’s going to be a transition period because I’ve done it for so long and so many times.”

Congratulations to Jeteric Ellis on winning 2nd in the 308 weight Division at the region meet yesterday hosted by Velma Jackson.  He will complete in the South State on March 4th at St. Patrick.

Jeteric has this to say about Powerlifting:

"Well I've been Powerlifting Ever since 9th grade. I really enjoy all the lifts, but I really like Bench Press plus squat and deadlift. I am preparing for March 4th by working out everyday, and I am in the weight room constantly training to get really strong so I can make it to the State Championship. But I just pray that God gives me strength to do what I need to do go with the flow."

Congratulations to Haylee Westbrook Smith County’s Distinguished Young Woman 2024!! Haylee won the $250 Interview scholarship, $250 self expression scholarship, $250 talent scholarship, $250 scholastic scholarship, and she also won $1250 for being named 2024 DYW for a total of $2250 in scholarships!

In addition to being named Smith County's DYW, Haylee is section leader for the trumpet section in the Raleigh Lion Pride Marching Band, a member of the girls' singles RHS Tennis team, a member of Beta Club, Student Council, and is a class officer.

On being asked what winning DYW means to her, Haylee said:

"Being named Smith County's Distinguished Young Woman and seeing what this organization values has inspired me to encourage the youth of our community to be the best people they can be. I'm grateful for the support I have received from so many people during this process, and I hope everyone will follow along with me as I prepare for the future in this program. The next steps for me include spending the next several months preparing for the state competition in July. I'm very thankful to have the opportunity to represent Smith County in Meridian this summer and compete with so many talented young women.".

"It’s extremely important to strive to be better. Knowing that you are living life as your best self will personally fulfill you, build your confidence, and give you a sense of purpose. Not only will this improve you individually, this will completely change the environment around you. ... Striving to be your best self will lead to a more rewarding, fulfilling life!"

Other winners of the DYW competition from RHS include:

Cemorya Tatum: $250 Fitness scholarship

Anistyn Ivy: $250 “Be Your Best Self” essay scholarship, and $1000 scholarship for being 1st alternate.

"Due to being in several other sports, I'm constantly on the move, and that allows me to incorporate physical fitness in my daily routine.

It's important for students to stay physically fit because not staying fit can lead to a lot of health problems and tiedness for kids."

Raleigh Jr. And Sr. Livestock judging team members competed today at the Southwest Livestock Show. Among the members, Brynn Boykin placed 5th place high point individual, Mason Smith placed 3rd place high point individual, and Macy Adams placed 3rd place high point individual.

"Personally, I enjoy all aspects of showing livestock. I show cattle and even though there is a lot of work, I would not want to spend my time doing anything else. Whether at the barn or in the show ring, I strive to make myself and my cattle the very best. ... I always say, 'practice like you have never won, perform like you have never lost.'"  -Macy Adams
