Mrs. Debbie Library - Library Activities

November 5th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 20th, 21st. In November, we will celebrate America by being THANKFUL. We will do songs, read books, have book talks, watch videos, and check out books.

First, we will study the word THANKFUL. I will teach them the song Thankful and make bookmarks for their new November Reads. We will talk about parts of a pumpkin and how to be thankful for the seeds. During the month, we will watch a 3-minute video about the Pilgrims' Thanksgiving and what giving thanks really means.

Below is a list of books and other activities we will do, as time permits, after book checkouts. Thankful (hand signs), Thanksgiving, Be a Friend, Gobble, Gobble Wobble, Wobble, Turkey Gobble, Turkey Dance, Pilgrims First Thanksgiving (winter 1620). Pumpkin parts diagram and a pumpkin coloring sheet.

Oct. 22nd, 23rd, 29th, 30th:

For the next two library times, we will be celebrating Halloween with fun reads, word search, coloring bats, coloring Star Wars Trick or Treat, following commands by using Halloween songs, plus more. Please keep in mind that all of the library Halloween materials are fun and safe for little children. Our Reads are The Hallo-weiner, In a Dark, Dark Room, Bob the Vampire, There Was an Old Mummy That Swallowed a Spider, Room on a Broom. We will do as much as the time allotted will allow.

Friday the 30th will be costume day and parade in the morning.

October 5th-9th

BOOK FAIR WEEK: The fair will be open each day. NMS Literacy Night on Wednesday from 3:30-5:30 will be a wonderful time to shop together and enjoy activities on SPACE. Children will have set times to shop during the school day. If you would like to shop with your family during school hours, please let the office know, and your child may shop. Remember, for easy shopping, you can set up an e-wallet account. We take card, cash, check, and e-wallet. We must charge tax by state law. Hope to see you at the fair!!!!

Week of the 12th-16th: Fall Break!!!!

October 1st and 2nd The book fair preview will be on Thursday and Friday during class. We will look at the case books, and I will read to them. First- and second-grade students will also have time to return and check out books in the library.

Don't forget: Book Fair is next week. You can put money in an e-wallet bank for them to spend, or we will take cards, cash, and checks. The NMS school event is Literacy Night on Wednesday, the 7th, from 3:30-5:30.

September 24th -25th

Book Fair is coming soon, so we will be doing book trailers. Book trailers are like a movie preview, but for a particular book. The fair sends previews of many books from pre-K through 8th grade. The children love these and always ask if it is a real movie. Each child will have a pamphlet displaying many books that will be sent to our fair. It's an enjoyable class to watch their faces light up over a book. We will also be checking out books. Many students are taking the AR test and reading at or above grade level. Keep up the good work, parents, on having them read each day. Remember that the more you read, the more their vocabulary grows!!!

September 17 Thursday/18 Friday

Constitution Day is September 17! It is a day to celebrate the United States Constitution and learn about the important ideas it protects.

Today, we can celebrate by learning about our rights, being responsible citizens, and working together to make our community better.

Krd-2nd will do an I Will Be a Good Citizen activity sheet by reviewing Constitution Day Promises.

We will also review the parts of the flag and how to hang it correctly. We will do our read-aloud: The Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble.

September 10/11:

No school on Monday due to Labor Day.

Pre-K through 2nd grade will be having Animal Book Week. Steven Jenkins and Jerry Palatto are awesome authors who write and create life-size animal pictures. Books for the week are: What a Tail!, Who Would Win?, Life Size Animals, Never Smile at a Monkey, National Geographic, plus many more on different levels. Each table will have all sorts of animal books. First- and 2nd-graders will be allowed to check out animal books. For fun, we will be moving and making sounds like different animals. Our song of the week is Madagascar, I Like to Move It!

What fun we will have in the library Thursday and Friday!

Friday is 9/11, and 2nd grade will do a book talk on the event.

September 3/4:🥵In celebration of Labor Day on Monday, September 7, 2026 (No School), we will be discussing what Labor Day is in K-2 on Thursday and Friday.

All classes will swap out books and receive their first bookmark.

Pre-K - Kindergarten - 1st - How to make a sandwich. Discuss which sandwich takes more time to make. Read-aloud book is Peanut Butter is my Sandwich! What's Yours? We will also review the "What Begins With?" alphabet quiz. How do we use a bookmark?

2nd: We will have vocabulary words such as barbecue, hammock, and celebrate on the topic of Labor Day, and learn how to do a Labor Day word search. We will learn to work diagonally, across, and down, and how to use a ruler to work a word puzzle.

Kindergarten is learning responsibility with library books. Each student chose a book and received a bookbag. Each will play round-robin reading and choose another book. We will do a read-aloud of "Cool Dog, School Dog" and "Animals in the Park," and the action song "If You're Happy and You Know It."

Pre-K will get acquainted with the library. We will read aloud "Peanut Butter and Jelly," "This Old Man," and "If You're Happy and You Know It."

1st and 2nd will turn in books and check out new ones. The library has 13,000 books, so we are working to find their locations by genre. We will do the read-aloud of "Cool Dog, School Dog."

August 20/21: Every student will receive a book bag to carry books back and forth for protection.

The 1st and 2nd grades will be taught a book talk about genres and book care. Each student will check out two books. The book read-aloud is "Do Dinosaurs Go to School?"

PreK will begin coming to the library on the 28th. Library rules and the proper handling of library materials will be taught. Book Reads are Peanut Butter and Jelly and Give a Dog a Bone, along with the songs for the books.

August 13/14:

On these two days, the 1st and 2nd will go on a scavenger hunt to discover all the wonderful things our library has to offer. Along the way, they will learn where to find books, how to take care of them, where to sit and read, and a little bit about their new classroom friends! The library is to be a place where no one wants to leave and is always eager to return.🥰

August 17/18: The kindergarten classes will be introduced to the library in two groups. We will then be able to go to full classes on Thursday and Friday.
