About me

Anthony Geist has a BS in Biology from Emory University and a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction from Tennessee Technological University and graduate level science courses at Belmont and MTSU. He grew up in a blacksmith and small engine repair business in Nashville and progressed to a master small engine mechanic for several engine manufacturers.  Anthony’s teaching career started in junior high where he taught science and math for ten years. After his boys were born the family moved to a farm in Buffalo Valley TN and he decided to say at home to raise his two boys on the farm. After a wonderful ten years raising the boys and they were both in school he started teaching at Gordonsville High School (GHS) in Smith County and has been there since 2004. With endorsements in Chemistry, Physics, and Biology he possesses a comprehensive understanding of scientific disciplines and has started several programs at GHS including upper level biology, upper level chemistry, and engineering. He is always searching for ways to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts to students.  He has participated in several Research Experiences for Teachers (RETs) and brought those experiences back to the classroom. He is currently using engineering and research methods to produce hands-on, problem solving, and critical thinking activities which help the students grasp scientific principles and how they are related to the world around them. Outside of school you can find him at the soccer complex working with the referees, coaches and teams, or working on the farm, or working with the forge, or restoring old cars and tractors.
