Class Overview
In my Reading classes, students will continue building on the reading and writing skills they developed in previous grades. In Social Studies, eighth grade will be learning about early American history, from the colonial period all the way to Reconstruction. Seventh grade Social Studies will focus on world history from the fall of the Roman Empire to the discovery of America.
Solid reading and writing skills are essential for each child’s future, regardless of the career they choose to pursue. With that in mind, we will spend this year looking closely at different types of texts both in our Social Studies and Reading courses, and we will learn how to produce different types of writing by using those texts. Instruction will be focused on the Tennessee State Standards for both Reading and Social Studies with the goal of student growth in both areas.
About me
My name is Ben Malone and I will be your child’s Social Studies and Reading teacher this year. I am a resident of Chestnut Mound where I live with my wife Kayla and two sons, Jackson and Luke. I graduated from MTSU with a bachelor's degree in history and teacher licensure in 2010, and in 2019 I graduated from Carson Newman University with a master's degree in educational leadership. I spent the first ten years of my career teaching at Union Heights, and this is my sixth year at Forks River.
